What is Preventive Dentistry?

Preventive Dentistry is all about stopping potentially big dental problems in their tracks. By using dental appliances, having regular maintenance visits, maintaining excellent gum and good home care as advised by your dentist, you give yourself the very best chance at preventing any future large, painful and costly dental procedures.

At Adelaide Quality Dental we work with our patients to ensure they maintain the very best dental care and dental health for their teeth and gums. This includes:

Regular active maintenance visits

Often known as a dental ‘check-up’ our active maintenance appointments are a great way to keep one step ahead of any problems and maintain the very best of dental health. Patients that visit their dentist regularly for a scale, clean and fluoride treatment will be more likely to avoid the development of some of the bigger, more painful and costly dental problems.

Gum disease

Your gums should not bleed when you brush your teeth. This may be an early indicator of gum disease.

Gum or Periodontal disease is an infection of the gums caused by predominantly by plaque (thick layers of bacteria found on teeth and gums) and poor oral hygiene. Gum disease is actually one of the leading causes of tooth loss in adults. The best way to guard against gum disease is to have great oral hygiene and regular active maintenance visits with the dentist and hygienist.

Dental appliances: for Snoring, Tooth grinding and protection with a Sports mouthguard

Dental appliances are devices used to prevent particular problems. Dental sleep appliances can help with snoring and sleep apnoea (also known as obstructive sleep apnoea or apnea). Tooth grinding or Bruxism may be helped with a custom-made dental grinding appliance. Meanwhile a custom sports mouthguard is the best way to protect your teeth whilst playing sports.
